Non-Executive Director and Interim Chair of Audit Committee
John joined Sirona in July 2014 to fill the gap left by David Purdon going on sabbatical.
John graduated in law from Queen’s University Belfast and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. in London. He left practice shortly after qualifying to go into industry as group financial controller of a textile finishing group based in Manchester before crossing the Pennines in 1980 to become Group Finance and Planning Director of Bassett Foods plc, the Sheffield based confectionery group synonymous with Liquorice Allsorts and Jelly Babies.
In 1986 he joined Pittards plc as Group Finance Director. Founded in Yeovil in 1825, Pittards produces high quality, technically advanced leather for many of the world’s most prestigious fashion and sports brands such as Louis Vuitton , Hermes, Titleist Footjoy and Nike.
After 20 years in the role John stepped down in 2006 to pursue a portfolio career. He joined Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Non-executive Director in 2007 and chaired the Trust’s Audit Committee, completing two three year terms before stepping down in 2013. He was appointed a Trustee of St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice in 2012, the fourth largest hospice in the country, and chairs their Audit Committee.
