Youth club members have been helping Santa ensure there are gifts under the tree at three care homes across Bath and North East Somerset.

Northside Youth Club in Lansdown heard of the “Secret Santa” initiative run by the Sirona Foundation via youth leader Jacqui Moxon, who works for Sirona, and they wanted to get involved.

They have wrapped and delivered over 100 individual personal presents which they have helped pay for from their own weekly club subscriptions to Cleeve Court in Bath, Combe Lea in Midsomer Norton and Charlton House in Keynsham.
The Foundation is the charitable arm of Sirona care & health, a not-for-profit social enterprise which provides specialist community health and social care in Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas.

Each year the Foundation invites staff to nominate individuals in the community who they feel would benefit from a gift.

Jacqui said: “The young people have really enjoyed getting involved and it has shown them the true spirit of Christmas and helping others.”

Foundation trustee Loraine Morgan-Brinkhurst said: “It is wonderful to have this extra contribution from young people supporting the elderly and vulnerable in our community.

“These gifts have been put under the tree at each home and will ensure that every resident has something to open on Christmas morning; each present is personal to them as it is an item that they have told staff they really want.

“The Foundation and indeed Sirona itself is here to benefit the communities it serves and this is a small way that we as Trustees can help staff to make a difference and compliments the high quality care that they provide every day of the year. We are delighted to have the extra support of the youth club.

“The Secret Santa nominations are incredibly moving; one of the first recipients of a Secret Santa gift for Christmas 2016 said: “Thank you – you don’t know what this means to me and how much of a difference this has made, I can stop worrying about Christmas.””

“This individual, who lives in Bath and North East Somerset, lost their family home following a bereavement and is now working many hours just to make ends meet. They had no idea how they were going to pay for Christmas and the small gift of a shopping voucher, has meant treats on the table and presents under the tree for young relatives.

“Other requests have been hampers for the housebound, presents for children from poor families whose parents would struggle to ensure Santa visited and jackets and boots for the homeless. We are pleased to be able to help in this small way.”
