Minor Injuries Unit

Our minor injuries service offers treatment for adults, children and young people for a wide range of minor injuries.

*Please note that Yate Minor Injury Unit can only treat injuries sustained within the last 2 weeks, and that opening times are subject to change at short notice because of high volumes of patients attending for treatment.

How does this service work / what's involved in this service?

The Minor Injuries Unit treats:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Cuts and grazes
  • Arm, lower leg and foot injuries
  • Bites – human, animal
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Minor head injuries
  • Broken noses and nosebleeds
  • Eye problems such as scratches, foreign bodies in the eyes

You will be seen by an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/skilled nurse who will assess, diagnose and treat your injury. If your condition is more serious, you will be referred to your GP or an A&E department or to another clinic.

The Minor Injury Unit is not equipped to see:

  • Sore Throats
  • Ear Aches
  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Abdominal Pains
  • Dental Pain
  • Mental Health problems

We also do not;

  • Re-dress wounds
  • Review Wounds
  • Remove Stitches
  • See any injury over 2 weeks old.

If you do not meet the criteria please contact your GP, call 111 or consult a pharmacist as appropriate.

How do I access this service?

The Minor Injuries Unit is a walk in service.

Free parking is available on site however it gets busy at times.

In what areas is this service available?

We currently offer this service in the South Gloucestershire area and the Bath & North East Somerset area.

X-ray service runs Monday - Friday from 9am - 4pm, not including bank holidays.

The service may need to close earlier than the times stated above if it is experiencing significant demand.

X-ray service runs Monday to Friday - a service run by NBT.
8.00am to 7.30pm Monday to Thursday (closed between 4.30 - 5.00pm) and 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday (closed 12.30 - 1.00pm) .

N.B. There is no x-ray service at weekends or on bank holidays.

The service may need to close earlier than the times stated above if it is experiencing significant demand.

Patients with a GP x-ray referral can also attend Cossham Hospital for their x-ray, where there is similar access available (during the same hours), but without the additional MIU service.
