Clinical/Spinal Assessment & Treatment Service

Clinical/Spinal Assessment & Treatment Service

The Clinical/Spinal Assessment & Treatment Service (CATS and SATS) are known as “interface” services. The clinics are run by specialist physiotherapists and GPs with a specialist interest in musculoskeletal medicine. These highly specialist clinicians are experts in the assessment and management of joint/muscle and spinal conditions.

*Infection Control Notice:

To prevent the spread of infection, if you have an appointment but are feeling unwell or have any infectious conditions (rash, diarrhoea or vomiting) please do not visit the department, and call the appointments team to rearrange your appointment.

Who is this service for?

Our CATS and SATS service is aimed at people who have persistent pain due to a musculoskeletal problem such as osteoarthritis or joint pain, or for people with spinal symptoms such as back pain or sciatic pain (leg pain due to a trapped nerve).

Your GP will refer you to this service if you have not responded to normal GP care such as pain relief and physiotherapy.

How does this service work / what's involved in this service?

The service considers all referrals from the GP, at this point they decide if you will come and see a clinician within the service or sometimes it is deemed necessary for you to go to the hospital to see a consultant team.

When you attend the service the specialist clinicians will conduct a thorough investigation of your problem and discuss your management plan with you.

We have clinics in Yate Westgate Centre, Cossham Memorial Hospital, and Thornbury Hospital outpatients.

How do I access this service?

Please ask your GP regarding details of referrals.
