Children’s Speech and Language Therapy

The Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service provides a high quality speech and language therapy service to children and young people with speech, language, communication, feeding and swallowing difficulties.

Who is this service for?

We support children and young people from 0-18 (0-19 if attending special school) as long as their GP practice postcode is within Bath and North East Somerset.

The Royal United Hospital, the Local Educational Authority and the majority of schools within Bath and North East Somerset also buy additional speech and language therapy support. This means that we can sometimes provide a service to children and young people with speech, language and communication needs but whose GP practice lies outside Bath and North East Somerset.

How does this service work / what's involved in this service?

We provide a high quality speech and language therapy service to children and young people with speech, language, communication, feeding and swallowing difficulties, including assessment, advice and therapy. We also provide training and support to parents, carers and other professionals so that we can work together to help each child/young person achieve their full potential as a communicator.

For more details about our service, please see our Local Offer document, Care Pathways, advice sheets and useful links on the right hand side of this page.

How do I access this service?

We have an open referral system so that parents, carers and young people can contact us directly to make a referral. We also accept referrals from other people (e.g. Health Visitors, school staff, GPs) but only if consent has been obtained from the parent/carer or, where appropriate, from the young person themselves.

In what areas is this service available?

This service is available to people registered with a GP within Bath and North East Somerset.
