Rake Up and Grow Garden Party

July 22, 2016

Join us for our ‘Rake Up and Grow’ Garden Party on Friday 5th August between 1.00pm and 3.00pm at Cleeve Court, Cleeve Green, Twerton, BA2 1RS.

The afternoon is a friendly informal introduction to the enriching activities carried out by members of the Rake Up and Grow Project. It has been running for almost 12 years and maintains real contracts, of in total up to 14 acres a week over 2 days . The project develops skills working with people with different abilities and volunteers, even working alongside College courses to give broader and greater experience to the formal learning undertaken. It also works in a way that encourages the individual to value themselves, their group and their community.

In the winter downtime, of contract work, Rake up and Grow is involved in activities, sites and grounds related to their project ie visits from the Avon Wildlife officer, visits to Horseworld for manure, Warminster Biodigester, Westonbirt Arboretum and Willow Farms to enrich and develop the relationship with their tasks and grounds.

Over the last few years Rake up and Grow has been working on low impact, self-generative food at their base grounds (Cleeve Court Community Resource Centre) and have put in a small orchard and fruit areas to give accessible fresh vibrant produce to the on-site kitchen, residents and service users. This year a sustainable food trail has been created so staff, family, friends residents can wander around the grounds and find out about individual fruit plants or act as a treasure hunt looking for specific food plants such as walnuts, figs, apples, almonds, pears, strawberries, quince and more.

It is an opportunity to allow the trainees to celebrate all the valuable contribution they make to the site, tasks and relationships.

Do come along and join us for our garden party that will include garden tours of the ground. Refreshments will be provided. One member of the team has begun a painting of Cleeve Court Orchard, as a gift for Rake Up and Grow, to offer by bid. The Mayor will also be planting a tree in the sustainable garden.   Further information about our Rake and Grow service can be found here.
